The Write Inspiration

for the week of January 18, 2016

Hello fellow TheWritePlace members!

Here are the submissions from last week

Hephaestus' PleaAm I not all that you want, Mom?
Is that why you threw me away?
Why did you take anger out on
Me for all of my dad's mistakes?
At times like this, I have to say:
"Am I not all that you want, Mom?"
You never liked me anyway -
Am I ugly? Is that what's wrong?
I should have known that - once upon
Mount Olympus - me you'd betray.
Am I not all that you want, Mom?
Would that be why you went astray?
"Smith of the gods!" is what you say
When you cast me down, sent me on
My trek through the dirt and decay.
Am I not all that you want, Mom?
Masters of the Greek NightTheir time comes as the sun sets, their golden moment of each day
Their reign arises with coming of the night, the fading of the sun's final ray
Ten mighty beings, all masters of the night
The dark hours are heavily dictated by their might
Stars fall and oracles occur at her command
She can light up the dark skies with a wave of her hand
As a quail she escaped pursuit into the sea
From the king of the Gods himself did she flee
Born of Chaos, his name is used for where the dead pass
Conceived as darkness itself, he fathered many with a mighty lass
Between Earth and Hades his darkness lies
He was among the first five beings to arise
With a pair of torches or a key is she often seen
Over magic and witchcraft does she serve as queen
Yet not all people believe the same
In Athens she was seen as a protector of great fame
Her beauty and power bring fear to Olympus' king
Her birth coming under Chaos' wing
Deities of doom, destruction, and death did she create
Along with lords of distress, blam

Hideki and the tanukiHideki, an investment banker, was on his way home from a long but successful day. He had made his firm a tidy profit by swindling an elderly, high-value client and it had made a good impression on his superiors. There was a promotion available and Hideki felt he had it in the bag.
He walked hurriedly, eager to let his wife know that his bosses were looking on him favourably. He was gaining respect at the firm...more respect than he felt his family ever gave him at home. He turned a corner and noticed a 10,000 yen note on the sidewalk in front of him. As he bent to pick it up he noticed a homeless man sitting about ten feet away. The vagrant watched Hideki pick up the note with pleading eyes.
“Don't look at me like that. See here. I deserve this money. I can turn it in to so much more than ever could, you filthy beggar.” The man said nothing, just looked down in to his empty bowl. Hideki scoffed as he passed.
This extra good luck had Hideki practically in a run the rest of t
Going Back to the Greek Tragedy [1.11.2016]It was the light drizzle that put her in a poor mood. She'd been in this suffocating city for weeks now, and it had taken its toll. Now, the rain; a concrete city made dourer by the overcast sky and wet seeping into everything.
How she loathed these damned mortals.
Immortals weren't much better in her book, but at least they chose comfortable locations in which to live. Mortals simply built their temples to human fallacy wherever there was space, worlds of concrete and steel, an attempt to obtain godhood.
She almost laughed at that. Godhood wasn't nearly all it was cracked up to be. It was the fact that the mortals were indeed immortal that created all of the problems. Unlike the many mythical monsters forged from twisted human minds, there was no special circumstance in which these immortals died. They would endure for all of time, and this had led to some of the most creative punishments the world across. While she didn't endorse the barbaric practices her family engaged in, s
